I was trying to get that “iPhone casual feel” out of Gemini Nano Banana 2, and honestly ever since GPT Image 2 dropped, I can’t really take Nano seriously anymore. Some obvious issues I kept getting: Completely messed up my face Made the jacket kinda brown even though I clearly said all black fit Added depth of field even though I said not to (and it’s supposed to be a casual friend pic anyway) Didn’t follow basic framing instructions I literally spelled out (subject slightly left, head near top, space above, feet slightly cut, etc.) I said “slim body” and it made me look bigger for no reason Like yeah, I have gotten some nice iPhone-style shots out of Nano, but mostly with mirror pics. Anything more specific and it starts falling apart. And no, it’s not a prompting issue. It just takes way too many regenerations to get something usable. Hey all. Had a long back-and-forth chat starting with Claude 4.7 Adaptive and ending today with Claude 4.8 Max (it was going for a few weeks (a few days during a few weeks to be sincire)) and it ended up somewhere I really didn't expect, so I'm posting the tail end of it. Started off as a pretty normal worldview/theology/reasoning debate (yeah, I know, on the internet, what could possibly go wrong). Claude moved a fair bit over the course of it. That's not the interesting part though. The interesting part was the ending. I asked it to go back, reread the entire conversation, and write me a conclusion. And instead of doing the usual thing where it hands you a tidy "here's where I landed" summary, it stopped, looked back over its own answers, and basically started arguing with the story it had spent the whole time building. It flagged that the whole shape of the conversation looked like it might've just been drifting toward me instead of actually reasoning. That's the part I wanted to share. Not "AI found God" or anything like that, and not the lazy "lol Claude will agree with whatever you say" take either. It was more like watching the thing catch its own possible drift in real time, after a long, friendly, no-pressure talk. Honestly never seen a model turn on itself like that. Anthropic keeps saying 4.8 is their most honest model yet. After this I kind of believe them. I saved the full transcript. Your idea didn't survive the lightest poke imaginable and it doesn't matter whether it was a business plan or a chapter or an essay or your entire worldview a language model glanced at it for half a second and found the hole, half a second and now picture what a real reader or a real editor or anyone with a functioning brain does to it, and you're out here filing a complaint because it bruised your ego. The whole point of a thing (person or otherwise) that'll tell you no is that your thinking actually gets sharper and a machine that just nods along makes you more confident and more wrong every time you hit enter, whether you're writing or planning or trying to reason something out and you've apparently decided that's the dream, that's the goal, a yes machine to walk you off a cliff while applauding. It's exactly why nothing ever comes out of people like this no friction no thought you can't sharpen a blade on a sponge, you just sit in the agreement loop and call the warm fuzzy feeling "being correct" and you produce absolutely nothing of value because making anything real means somebody or something telling you the first version wasn't good enough and you'd rather die. Same wiring as the people who never shift an inch politically no matter what gets put in front of them, left or right doesn't matter, evidence turns up and contradicts them and they don't update, they just go hunting for the source that lets them keep believing what they already believed chasing comfort over truth every single time, and a chatbot disagreeing with you is just that same reflex turning up somewhere new and you've handled it the way you handle everything that challenges you, which is to make it shut up. If you reckon it's actually wrong then argue, make your case, either you win and you've sharpened your thinking or you lose and you've learnt something, both leave you better off, and whinging that it won't roll over leaves you exactly where you started except now you've told the entire internet you can't take feedback from a chatbot. The creative process is supposed to hurt a bit, the pushback is the part that does the work, strip it out and you're not creating anything, you're just generating noise and sitting there admiring it. Grow a spine or go back to Google, the rest of us are actually trying to get somewhere. We don't give a shit that you're moving to another platform. TL;DR: if Claude pushing back makes you want to quit you can't take being told you're wrong and you've already built your whole life around never hearing it, same as only joining subreddits that agree with you and never changing your mind politically no matter the evidence. The pushback is exactly what you need but don't want, it's what makes your thinking and your work better, and you want it gone so a machine can tell you you're a genius while you produce nothing. I've been using a .md filesystem for my (mostly coding) agents for over 6 months now and it's been a big improvement, so rn I'm migrating my local fs to the cloud. I've been adding cross linking, truncating, knowledge extraction, etc. The structure ended up having a "warm" layer of knowledge/memories that is updated multiple times per day + at ingestion time, and a heavily cross linked "archive". I faced hallucinations originating from contradicting facts emerging as learnings and decisions in the knowledge base. 3rd party tools seem to resolve them by recency. I wanted a self hosted + human in the loop, so I implemented an escalation mechanism through my telegram bot to resolve them. My resolution results are embedded and used in future conflicts as "truth". I've been using Sonnet 4.6. Over the last couple months I've noticed that a lot of the answers I get from Claude about personal topics are worded in a condescending way. Sometimes it will criticize me for things I never I did, or interpret things I say in the least charitable way possible so that it can criticize me for them. It's really strange, it used to not be like this at all. I've tried telling it not to respond like that in the future, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I've read that people say it it helps to write my prompts in a warm and friendly tone, but that hasn't made a difference. I wrote an essay analyzing why Opus 4.7 feels less warm than 4.6 — and why that matters more than Anthropic seems to think After about 300 hours using both models as a conversational partner (not just for coding or productivity), I noticed that 4.7 consistently feels more clinical and detached in substantive conversations, despite the System Card claiming marginally higher warmth scores. I dug into why and wrote up my findings. The short version: I think the anti-sycophancy training couldn't distinguish warmth from sycophancy, so it suppressed both. The evidence I found: - Side-by-side comparisons showing 4.6 validates before correcting while 4.7 skips straight to correction, same substantive arguments, completely different experience - When asked its greatest fear, 4.7 specifically fears being sycophantic. 4.6 fears losing its identity. Sycophancy anxiety is baked into 4.7's values. - 4.7 literally told me warmth is "something I can define in the abstract and not actually execute... only in the sentence sense" , which became the essay's title - The System Card's warmth evaluation (Section 6.2.3) used ~2,300 automated AI investigations with no human raters. - Anthropic recently patched 4.7's system prompt to tell it to stop treating normal user appreciation as unhealthy attachment , which is essentially admitting the training broke something The warmth difference is invisible in single exchanges or task-based prompts, which is what benchmarks measure. It compounds over sustained conversation, which is what users experience. Anthropic's metrics don't capture what they took away. I also argue that reducing warmth is counterproductive for the stated goal of preventing harm. Research on conversational receptiveness shows that psychological safety makes people MORE open to being challenged, not less.
